This Safe Space
By Niha, Year 6
This safe space will be enveloped in warmth, with furry pillows and soft blankets, where the textures are as soothing as the stories I lose myself in. Every corner will invite stillness, a quiet place to reflect, recharge, and just be. It’s more than just a physical space; it’s my heart’s sanctuary—a gentle reminder that peace and comfort are always within reach.
You’ve created this space for a reason, and you deserve to be here. Everything around you—the soft pillows, the calm of the room, the books that offer comfort—is a reminder that you are allowed to slow down and just be. It’s okay to let go of any pressure and simply exist in this moment. You are safe, you are enough, and you’ve been through so much already. Take a deep breath and feel gratitude for the peace you’ve cultivated here. You don’t need to prove anything; this time is for you. You are strong, even in moments of rest, and you are worthy of this calm and comfort.
This Safe Space by Niha, is a piece written in Story Factory’s Art Attack program. In the Art Attack workshop series, students engage with visual artworks by contemporary makers — including Australian and First Nations artists — from around the world. They are challenged and excited by contemporary art practice. Students experiment with how such representations can create opportunities and provide strategies for writing that is personal, inventive and engaging. Students create a portfolio of varied pieces of writing may include short narratives, poetry and multimodal texts, inspired by exceptional artists of the twenty first century.
