Acknowledgement of Country
By Jumaima, Year 4
I would like to pay my respect to Dharug Country for all the beautiful golden wattle flowers, which give bliss to my day!
I would also like to acknowledge all the innocent looking wombats, which are actually as evil as they can be as they get older.
The last thing I would like to respect is the lovely blazing sun, which gives the day a proper start. Here I am on Dharug land.
This Acknowledgement of Country by Jumaima, was written as a part of Oz Odyssey. In this workshop series, students are asked to imagine they receive a call to action from a natural element. They are asked to go on an adventure through Wiradjuri, Ngarrindjeri and Kunwinjku Country, where they are given an opportunity to learn about the land, the history and the wonderful First Nations languages. Throughout their journey of self-discovery, the students ultimately learn what home is, and what makes it special to them. We hope you enjoy their stories.
