I am…

By Uzma, Year 10

I am out of my home at 8:30am sharp, still stuck on the dream I didn’t get to finish last night.

Chicken for lunch with rice and curry, sharing with no one but myself.

Re-reading The Love Hypothesis and watching The Vampire Diaries and Panchayat on repeat.

I’m advising people to move on from the past but I myself still with mine, constantly touching/wiggling my necklace when I’m nervous, bracelet always in my hand along with my watch (not today).

I’m always saying that I’ll do things later, but later never comes and the work is undone until last minute which stresses me out.

I am eagerly waiting for my formal (which might or might not be cancelled. If it is cancelled, I’ll be heartbroken).

I am wanting to publish as many books as I can, selling as many artworks as I can.

I am wanting to have my own fashion boutique/brand one day. To become a doctor.

And finally, I am constantly worrying about my future and what will happen after death?

This poem by Uzma, was written as a part of Story Factory’s Write Your World program. In this eight week long workshop series students had the opportunity to vent, roast, complain and to praise, compliment and celebrate! They created a varied suite of short pieces that included poetry, short narratives, informative writing and multimodal texts. All this writing, afforded students fun and engaging opportunities to develop ideas, experiment with writing strategies as they let off steam, give sick burns and take off their hats to their passions and enthusiasms.
