The Joys of Life

By Jonathan, Year 6

The thrill of bushwalking when a wallaby pops out from the bush,
The relaxing sounds of a stream weaving through the trees.
The satisfying Ding! when buttery toast pops out the toaster,
And the smell of freshly laundered clothes straight out of the washing.

The crisp sound of scissor blades gliding through paper,
The chirping of lively birds from the tree branches,
The salty, savoury goodness of pizza melting on my tongue,

The pop of exotic fruits bursting in my mouth.

Everything that gives me joy.

This poem, The Joys of Life, by Jonathan, was created in An Ounce of Joy. In this workshop, students learn all about hopes and dreams. They learn about the concept of a bucket list and build a collection of experiences and achievements they hope to have in their lifetime. They are subsequently supported to create a short poem that records and celebrates their individual dreams and aspirations.
