My Faith

By Ivy, Year 9

My faith is dark and crimson red with brown eyes and a piercing crown on their head. It wears bloody clothes and a strong merciful face with tears of love streaming down their face. They harbour peace and a joyful destiny with a determination to see the beautiful side of me.

It doesn’t have evil thoughts but remembers the ones he harbours because my faith never looks back, and hopes for the future.

My faith is strong with a wise, sharp mouth. It swallows the good things in life and keeps the bad experiences for the use of resilience.

My faith nurses mercy, peace, joy, wisdom and beauty to keep chaos away, and in the grave my faith can be heard shouting that there will always be a second chance just for me to take it.

And when my faith finds itself lost in mistrust, it remembers the piercing crown and the bloody clothes.

Short and Suite

This story by Ivy, is from Short and Suite. In this workshop series, students create short pieces of prose poetry inspired by mentors texts from Australia, and across time and place. These workshops are an excellent introduction to the form of prose poetry. Students experiment with the fluidity of this form in a way that is accessible and fun. This series is designed and suited for students who may be struggling to engage in writing.
